THE BALLERINA
carillon

"Ballerina" is a light-footed female pachyderm with a penchant for ballet. She dances with her partner, a little mouse enchanted by her talent, performing a pirouette atop a golden ball. Two romantic characters dreamed up by Marcel Wanders to animate this poetical carillon.
The platform on which the duo perform their dance routine houses the mechanism that produces the tune, for which Wanders chose Entry of the Gladiators by Julius Fučík, the well-known melody that heralds the start of circus shows the world over.

CHARACTERISTICS MW 37 - THE BALLERINA

A sculptural object for collectors, dedicated to true connoisseurs of the applied arts,
it is composed of 18 parts in 18/10 stainless steel produced using four different production processes, depending on the type of component to be made. Lost wax casting, for complex design elements with minute details to be reproduced; CNC machining for details that require high-precision execution for the purpose of coupling; flatbed laser cutting for complex geometric figures; cold forming of sheet metal for parts that can typically be made using the traditional production technology employed by Alessi. The figure of the elephant is composed of three parts that are soldered together using laser technology. The carillon mechanism is produced in Switzerland by craftsmen. Decorated with decal transfers appliquéd by hand and kiln-fired. Any slight variations in the colour or decal appliqué – either between one item and another, or over time – should be considered intrinsic characteristics of a product made employing an artisan process, which results in each item being truly unique. Some details are gold electroplated. Produced at the factory at Crusinallo, Omegna it’s ideal for a special and exclusive gift
THE BALLERINA
character history
After being discovered by a famous choreographer during a street performance, Valentina, an accomplished belly dancer, fell in love with the graceful movements and pirouettes of ballet dancing. The little mouse had never seen a ballerina with such potential and decided to dedicate all her time to make her a true star. Two years later, the pair perform together all around the world, not just as colleagues but also as the most dazzling couple of the day.
