THE JESTER
corkscrew

Marcel Wanders gives this corkscrew the form of a lively, jumping jester bedecked in a multicoloured diamond costume. “The Jester” appears atop one of those platforms that circus artists use to perform their acts, as they prepare to dazzle with a leap or a pirouette. The designer cleverly conceals the functional parts of the corkscrew within the design of the character. The element resembling a circus platform conceals the worm and is the part positioned on the neck of the bottle, while the jester's pointed hat forms a practical grip that facilitates removal of the cork.

Corkscrew polished 18/10 stainless steel.
6½” x 2¼” – h 7½”
Limited edition numbered from 0 to 999 and 9 artist's proofs.

CHARACTERISTICS MW 35 - THE JESTER

A sculptural object for collectors, dedicated to true connoisseurs of the applied arts, it is composed of 40 parts in 18/10 stainless steel produced using three different production processes, depending on the type of component to be made. Lost wax casting, for complex design elements with minute details to be reproduced; CNC machining for details that require high-precision execution for the purpose of coupling; flatbed laser cutting for complex geometric figures. Decorated with decal transfers appliquéd by hand and kiln-fired. Any slight variations in the colour or decal appliqué – either between one item and another, or over time – should be considered intrinsic characteristics of a product made employing an artisan process, which results in each item being truly unique. Some parts are painted. Produced at the factory at Crusinallo, Omegna it’s ideal for a special and exclusive gift.
THE JESTER
character history
A wine-inebriated joker, Gilberto loves opening bottles and expresses himself not just with words but with sounds too. He laughs, shouts, jumps and gesticulates madly: Gilberto does whatever it takes to get attention. With his madcap antics and dancing like a dervish to remove every cork he encounters, on more than one occasion Gilberto has got inadvertently stuck in other objects. Luckily, he doesn't stay stuck for long because there's always someone there to free him: letting him set off in search of new bottles!
