LC03 - Gertrudis, trivet

see:

The mystery behind the names Clotet chooses for his objects has finally been revealed! The Catalonian architect told us that all the names of the products he has designed for us are taken from the literary work of poet J. V. Foix (Barcelona 1893-1987). Beginning with the appropriately named Foix round tray of 1994. The tradition continues with the name of this trivet: in fact “Gertrudis” is the title of one of Foix’s first books, published in 1927. The author (Clotet) of this particular work (the trivet) provided us with this semiologic explanation: “It is an object that has neither a front nor a back. It satisfies a requirement but at the same time asks us to use our imagination to attribute it other unknown needs. It doesn’t overtly suggest its function and for this reason it doesn’t need to claim a specific use to acquire a sense. As such it is never incomplete.”
