German publisher Gruener und Jahr every year invites the readers of three of its most important magazines, 'Essen und Trinken' , 'Living at Home' and 'Schoener Wohnen' to vote for their favourite companies among various categories such as best tableware, kitchenware and design complements.

The competition is called 'White Star' and the selected companies are presented in a publication sold together with the June issue of three magazines.

Alessi took part in the 2009 White Star competition in two categories: Porcelain with David Chipperfield's tableware 'Tonale' and Pans with Richard Sapper's 'La Cintura di Orione' in triply.

Last 3 September the winners voted by 16.000 readers among approx. 100 nominees were awarded the 2009 White Star .
La Cintura di Orione by Richard Sapper won the Golden White Star and Tonale by David Chipperfield received the Silver White Star award.

The November issues of  'Essen und Trinken' , 'Living at Home' and 'Schoener Wohnen' will dedicate editorials to the winners of the 2009 competition.
