With just 999 units made, and 24-carat gold plating, this round basket celebrates 30 years of the Girotondo series: a collection of objects with a pop design, featuring the unmistakable perforated paper doll motif to which the series owes its popularity.
"Excuse me, what are these drawings?" asked a lady intrigued by the three sketches created by designer duo King-Kong to decide upon the perforated motif that would feature on their first tray for Alessi. "Tell us, what do you think they are", they answered, seizing the opportunity to put their designs to the test. Looking at the first two sketches, she pronounced: "Um, I'm not sure". Then she looked at the third and exclaimed: "Look, this one is a little paper doll!" And that's how the popular Girotondo motif was born, reminiscent of the cut-out paper dolls made by children: reproduced on trays, baskets and many other objects for the home, it has become one of the most successful collections in the Alessi catalogue.
