A centerpiece for collection, to celebrate the centenary of Ettore Sottsass's birth. An unmissable item for those who love this unforgettable designer.
An eclectic figure, hardly describable in a few lines of presentation, Ettore Sottsass has characterised a crucial moment in Alessi's history, contributing to its transformation into one of the Italian Design Factories. In 2017, on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of this exceptional designer, Alessi celebrated the event with a limited edition of the centerpiece ES14, available in 999 numbered pieces. Made of lime wood, the centrepiece is produced in Valle Strona by means of a semi-artisanal process. "Almost all objects that I design have a base, they do not touch the ground directly. As soon as you put a shape on a base, the shape becomes immediately important, firmer: it becomes a small monument." Ettore Sottsass
Born in Innsbruck in 1917, he is known the world over as one of the initiators of the revolution in architecture and design which led away from the rigid functionalism of the years prior to and following the Second World War. A great and influential Maestro of Italian design, the energy of his language and the vitality of his colour and line contrast sharply with any intellectualism and rigidity. He dies in December 2007.
